More facts have emerged on why the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Benjamin Hundeyin, was removed from office and his possible replacement.
As earlier reported by The WHISTLER, he was removed from office by the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, on Thursday.
However, there was still no signal to that effect on Thursday, raising fears that the removal could still be reversed.
Sources at the Force Headquarters in Abuja told The Eagle Online that the “sin” of Hundeyin was an interview he granted to a television station.
The sources, however, could not pinpoint the exact interview.

Checks by The Eagle Online revealed that one of the latest interviews granted by the recently promoted Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) was that on the money mistakenly paid into the account of the son of the immediate past IGP, Olukayode Egbetokun.
The defence came as Egbetokun was exiting office.
In the same vein, Hundeyin also spoke about the Electoral Act and the Publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore.
Also in that interview, he was said to have spoken about the rumoured appointment of Disu as the IGP.
In the interview, he said the then Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Annex cannot be appointed as the IGP as he would be retiring in April 2026.
These were said to have been the crux of the issues against Hundeyin by those in Disu’s kitchen cabinet.
On who will replace him, sources said a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) will be moved from Lagos State.
The name of the DCP could however not be verified as at press time.
Someone in the know who did not know his surname put it as DCP Gbenga.
A source said that the Force would likely return to the regime where Commissioners of Police (CPs) serve as FPROs.
This is because most of the spokesperson in the Armed Force of Nigeria (AFN) are of the rank of an AIG or at the worst a CP.
And in the case of Hundeyin, he is regarded as inexperienced for the position.
A source said he received rapid promotion, hence he does not have the requisite experience for the seat of the FPRO.
