Fifteen persons have been confirmed dead in an accident that involved a Sino truck owned by the Dangote Group and a Toyota Hiace.
Corps Public Education Officer and Assistant Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Olusegun Ogungbemide, confirmed this.
In a statement on Saturday, Ogungbemide quoted the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, as saying that the accident was not only avoidable and preventable, but highly condemnable.
The statement said the crash occurred in Mairuwa on the Funtua-Sokoto Road in Katsina State on Saturday at about 11am.
Mohammed said if the driver had observed established legal speed limits, ensured adequate vehicle maintenance and complied with traffic regulations, the crash would not have occurred.

The Mairuwa crash involved a Toyota Hiace Bus with registration number: MRR 83 XA, that loaded passengers from Zamfara State heading to the Southern part of the country, which had a tyre burst in Mairuwa village.
This led to loss of control with the driver ramming head-on into the Dangote Group truck.
According to Ogungbemide, 28 people were involved in the accident.
They were 23 male adults, one female adult, one male child, and three female children.
From the number, 13 victims made up of 11 male adults, one female adult, and one male child were rescued with varying injuries.
Fifteen victims, 11 male adults, one female adult and three female children, were killed.
Most of the casualties were passengers of the bus.
According to Ogungbemide, the rescued victims have been taken to Funtua General Hospital for immediate medical attention.
