The Deputy National President of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, Hon. Shehu Jega Marshal, has led some officials of the association to lodge a complaint with the police against one of its members and Chairman of Suleja Local Government Area, Hon. Abdullahi Maje, for impersonation and for allegedly leading thugs to invade the association’s national office in Abuja.
Marshal, leading a delegation that included ALGON’s National Treasurer, the Director of Legal and Administration and some counsel, told the DIG Department of Finance and Administration, Sanusi Lemu, and the FCT Commissioner of Police, Bala Ciroma, how Hon. Maje, who they said is neither the ALGON State Chairman in Niger State, where he comes from, nor a member of the association’s National Executive Council, led thugs to invade the ALGON national office in Abuja on April 16, 2021.
Maje was also accused of publishing libellous claims against the present leadership of the association, led by Hon. Alabi Kolade David, and his executive, as well as using the name of ALGON to advance his personal gains, thereby undermining the public confidence in the association.
Marshal, who is also the ALGON State Chairman, Kebbi State, affirmed that all members of the National Executive Council were in total support of the leadership of David as its national president.
The Board of Trustees of ALGON, led by its Chairmen, Hon. Odunayo Ategbero, has also reportedly disclaimed Maje’s actions and pledged their unflinching support to the Alabi-led executive and the Director-General of ALGON, Hajiah Binta Adamu Bello.
Marshal said the NEC has commended the state executives and chairmen of local governments for their unbroken support and loyalty, and the Nigeria Police, judiciary and other security agencies for their continued support.
He also advised Maje to use the funds available to him to focus on the humongous developmental challenges and infrastructural gaps besetting the Suleja Local Government he superintends over, but which he seems to have neglected.
He said ALGON will never be distracted under the Alabi-led executive.
“ALGON now indeed is positioned as a breeding ground for quality leaders, to bring unity in Nigeria, entrench peace and serve as an institutional memory for research and evidence-based development for the whole local governments and councils in Nigeria,” he said.
