As Delta State people head to the polls for local government elections on Saturday, morning downpour disrupted the distribution of electoral materials to the various voting centres in Ogwashi-Uku, Aniocha South Local Government Area.
Chairmen and councillors would be elected in the state’s 5,863 polling units, 500 wards and 25 local government areas.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the rain, which started at about 7:25am, delayed the arrival of election officials and ad hoc staff to the distribution centre.
When NAN called at the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission Distribution Office at Ikelike Quarters, Ogwashi-Uku, many polling agents and ad hoc staff were seen waiting for officials to arrive and distribute the materials.
An ad hoc staff member, Joyce Ijeh, told NAN that the delay was caused by the early morning rain.
Ijeh said: “They asked us to come here by 7:30am.

“Many of us came here in the rain.
“We have been waiting for over two hours now but nothing has happened.
“It is 10:45am now.
“Some of the officials are just coming now due to the rain.
“However, once the materials are distributed, everyone will leave for the various polling units.”
