The Deputy Governor of Cross Rivers State, Barrister Efiok Essien Cobham, has called on the Nigeria Police Force to investigate the killing of three men and displacement of 5,000 people by a group in the state.
Cobham made this call after inspecting Inyima community in Yakur Local Government Area of Cross River State, where the villages laid in ruins.
Witnesses accounts claimed that the three victims were killed after an invasion of Inyima community by its neighbouring Adun village in Obrubra Local Government Area of Cross River State.
The attack was said to have been initiated by Adun villagers who alleged that a man from Inyima village stole cassava tubers from the farm of an Adun person.
It was also gathered that the suspected thief was nabbed but Adun villagers still went ahead to attack Inyima village.
Three persons were killed, over 300 houses burnt and demolished while about 5,000 villagers were displaced.
The Inyima villagers, who now sleep in public places such as schools and churches, claimed that the man who stole the cassava tubers is mentally sick and had been so for years.
