Akinade Onigbinde, the Technical Adviser of Doma United Football Club of Gombe, on Sunday commended his players for defeating visiting Niger Tornadoes FC, describing the 2-1 win as hard-fought.
The Group B Match Day 12 fixture, 2022/2023 Nigeria Professional Football League was played at Pantami Township Stadium.
Speaking at the post-match conference, Onigbinde said he felt good with the match’s outcome, adding that his players put up a good performance and fought for victory.
He stated that his players and coaching crew colleagues would continue to work hard to finish among the top six in the league.
He said: “I feel very great.
“The boys played well.
“They are good, wonderful and ready players.
“We thank God for the success.
“It (the win) is a great one.
“We will keep working hard till we get there.
“Top 6 is our aim and we will get there.”
Onigbinde, while commending his players for their sacrifice, also said he was optimistic that his team would gain something from their next match against Dakkada FC of Uyo.
On his part, Umar Farouk, Niger Tornadoes’ Chief Coach, said the match was difficult and competitive as both teams had to fight for advantage throughout the game.
Farouk said they came with a game plan which they executed successfully but were unfortunate the outcome of the match did not reflect that.
He said: “We had a game plan.
“They are a good side also.
“They picked a draw away and we know they want to come home and consolidate.
“We also picked our three points with a very good margin, and we know our strategy of getting points outside which they may want to use against us, of which we planned well and succeeded.
“Unfortunately, at the end of the game, they took the day.”
Farouk said he was a bit disappointed with some of his players for not playing to instructions, but stressed that the match’s outcome would not affect his team’s dream of playing in the Super 6.
“Our target by the grace of God is to get to the Super 6 of which we will get there as this result does not affect it,” Farouk said.
NAN also reports that Doma United’s goals came in the 28th and 75th minutes of the game through Musa Usman and Charles Chibuike respectively.
Mark Daniel got the visitors’ lone goal in the 47th minute.
