Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested two suspected armed robbers in Mowe area of the state.
According to available information, they were coming from a robbery operation which they carried out in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
The spokesman of the Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said Wasiu Opeyemi, a 31-year-old indigene of Ijebu Ode in Ogun State, and Noah Israel, 27, a Benue State indigene, were apprehended on June 23, 2022 by men of the State Anti-Kidnapping Unit, who were on routine patrol at Mowe area of Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The two men, who were on a motorcycle, were accosted by the team because of the suspicious manner they appeared.
Opeyemi and Israel were thus stopped for questioning.
The two suspects made an attempt to escape but were quickly surrounded by the operatives and taken to the nearest police station.
On interrogation, they confessed to the police that they were coming from Ogbomoso in Oyo State, where they have gone to carry out a robbery operation.
They confessed further that all the goods in their possession are proceeds of the operation.
Opeyemi and Israel also stated that one of their victims was forced to transfer the sum of N100,000 into their account since nothing tangible was found with him.
The suspects, who claimed to have met at Oba Correctional Center while serving different jail terms, confessed robbing their victims with cutlasses and other dangerous weapons.
Recovered from them were two laptops, 11 phones of different types, one Rolex wrist watch, cash sum of N120,000 and bags containing household items.
The Command’s Commissioner, CP Lanre Bankole, has ordered a thorough investigation of the suspects before transferring them to Oyo State, where they will be prosecuted.
