Justice Mojishola Dada had on Friday, February 9, issued a bench warrant for the arrest and detention of Chukwuma in prison for failure to attend court proceedings for formal arraignment by the Economic and financial Crime Commission.

The other defendants in the ex parte application filed before the Federal High Court in Lagos are the Federal High Court, the Attorney General of the Federation, the Nigeria Police Force, the Inspector-General of Police and Guaranty Trust Bank.

The CNPP in its reaction to the controversial arrest, also through a statement signed by its Secretary General, Chief Willy Ezugwu, urged the Senate to ensure that the Acting EFCC Chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, was appropriately sanctioned if it was found that the Commission colluded with Guarantee Trust Bank Plc in the saga. 

The Senate decision was sequel to a point of order raised by the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, who narrated how Chukwuma was arrested around of 5am at his residence in Enugu State, adding that the arrest is against his human rights.

The statement reads: “Our attention has been drawn on a tweet by EFCC on its official Twitter handle claiming that the gestapo kind of arrest of Dr. Innocent Chukwuma (OFR) today at his Enugu residence was because he didn’t honour an invitation from the commission sent to him.
