The suspended Secretary to the Government of Federation, Babachir Lawal, has again shunned the Senate panel investigating the alleged N200 million grass cutting contract in which he has been indicted.
The committee began its hearing on the contract scam in the North East since 10am on Thursday (today), but the suspended SGF failed to appear before it.
Addressing the journalists before the panel adjourned, the Chairman of the Committee, Senator Shehu Sani, said the suspended SGF security chased away officials who went to deliver the invitation to him in his house.
Sani explained that the committee decided to fix the hearing for Thursday (today) based on the request from Lawal, who said he was not given fair hearing on the matter.
He added the suspended SGF’s absence at the investigative hearing is a deliberate choice because the panel has done enough to give him fair hearing in the matter.
It could be recalled that the Committee’s interim report indicted the Lawal.
It was submitted in December 2016.
He was found culpable by the Senate for his alleged role in a grass-cutting contract worth N200 million under the Presidential Initiative on the North East to clear “invasive plant species” in Yobe State.
