The Department of State Service in Kano State has arrested four suspects who allegedly kidnapped a seven-year-old boy on March 4 in Kano metropolis.
The state Director of the DSS, Bassey Eteng, told newsmen in Kano on Thursday.
Eteng said that the suspects were apprehended in Kano metropolis following intelligence reports.
He said investigations showed that the mastermind, one Sarki, employed the services of one Aliyu Mohammed, who perfected and executed the plan.
He said after kidnapping the boy, they provided an account number into which N2 million was deposited by the father of the boy.
Eteng added: “Thinking that the boy will make noise, they injected him with some liquid, which we are not sure, led to the death of the boy.
“The DSS and the Nigerian Army 3rd Brigade effected the arrest of all the suspects and they are with us.”
The director also said that the operatives had arrested one Peter Heleman, who allegedly specialises in threatening people to give him money.
According to him, the suspect, who used to call his victims through the mobile phone, was apprehended in Kano following a tip-off.
He said as soon as investigations were concluded, the suspects would be charged to court for proper prosecution.
Eteng called on the people of the state to continue to give security agencies necessary support and cooperation to enable them to discharge their duties effectively.
He said: “We are assuring members of the public that the new trend will not be allowed to continue as the security agencies are ready to deal with the situation.”
