A former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has said that someone who tapped the telephone line of the National Security Advisor (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, told him of his planned arrest.
The former two-term governor revealed this when he featured on a programme on Arise TV on Friday in Abuja.
He also disclosed that it was not the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) that wanted to arrest him, but the Department of State Services (DSS) that was acting on the nudge of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC).
El-Rufai said: “It was not the EFCC that wanted to arrest me.“It was DSS, but DSS was procured by the ICPC, which has never communicated with me.

“The EFCC had written to me while I was away, saying they wanted to have a chat with me over certain issues.“And my lawyer replied that I’m not in the country and I am on my annual vacation. “I told them that once I return, he’ll inform them.
“I even told EFCC that I’ll celebrate my birthday with them. “My birthday is Monday, 16th February. “I’ll come and see them.“But subsequently, we found out that it was not the EFCC.
“It was ICPC that procured DSS.“And this is the modus operandi of ICPC, which has increasingly become a personal tool of Nuhu Ribadu. “Nuhu made a call and gave the order that I must be in custody today.”
When asked how he knew Ribadu made the call, El-Rufai said: “He made the call because we listened to their calls. “The government thinks they’re the only ones who listen to calls, but we also have our ways.“He made the call and gave the order.
“Someone tapped his phone and told me.” When informed about the implication of tapping another person’s line, El-Rufai said he knows because the government does it all the time without a court order, “but someone tapped his phone and told us that he gave the order.“But the EFCC has shown itself to be more professional in this particular instance.
“And on Monday, I’ll go and see them. “Yesterday, finally, the ICPC did the right thing, and I’ll go and see them – not the DSS that wants to abduct me.”
