In an attack, six people, including the driver of a commuter vehicle, were reportedly killed by suspected gunmen in the early hours of Monday.
The vehicle, which departed Takum for Wukari around 6am, was ambushed at a village near Sai in neighbouring Benue State.
Confirming the incident to newsmen, the Chairman of Takum Local Government Area, John Ali, said: “I arrived in Jalingo yesterday for a meeting, but this morning I received a call about a tragic incident along the Takum-Wukari Highway.
“Five passengers left Takum around 6am, and while approaching a village near Sai in Benue State, gunmen emerged from the forest and opened fire on the moving vehicle.

“The section of the road where the commuters were ambushed is untarred.
“The five passengers and the driver were killed.”
Ali also said security operatives in the area had initiated patrols to track down the fleeing gunmen.
The Taraba State Police Command has yet to make an official statement on the incident.
