Senate seeks special package for ex-senators to cushion suffering

The Senator representing Delta South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator James Manager, on Wednesday disclosed that life after outside the Red Chamber is suffocating.

Manager therefore said there is the need for a “special package” for ex-senators.

Manager, a third term senator, made this disclosure while‎ eulogising the late Umar Hambagda‎, an ex-senator from Borno South Senatorial District, at plenary on Wednesday.

He said the late ex-senator was not well taken care of after he left the Senate.

“Let’s face it, life outside the senate is suffocating,” he said.

In response, the President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, said the Senate would work out an internal mechanism of aiding ex-members.

Earlier, Ali Ndume, the Senate Leader, had raised a point of order to announce the passing of Hambagda, who was in the fifth and sixth Senate.
