Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has replied the All Progressives Congress over its statement that the was not fit to be the President of the Senate.
The APC had in a long statement by its Acting National Publicity Secretary, Yekini Nabena, accused Saraki of sundry wrongdoings, including betraying his father, Dr. Olusola Saraki; and his sister, Gbemi Saraki.
However, in a terse response to the lengthy accusations by the APC, Saraki, who defected from the party to the Peoples Democratic Party two weeks ago, said he will not descend into the gutter with the authors of the statement.
In the statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, Saraki said: “We can’t descend into the gutter with these characters.
“Apparently they have not recovered from the shock of their Tuesday’s failed attempt to subvert democracy.”
On the failed attempt to subvert democracy, Saraki was referring to the invasion and blockade of the National Assembly by the operatives of the Department of State Services.
While the Office of the Senate President and the lawmakers elected on the platform of the PDP and those sympathetic to Saraki’s cause believed the blockade was triggered by the Presidency and the APC in order to impeach him, the president of the Senate is being accused on the other hand of having induced the sacked Director General of the DSS, Lawal Daura, to take the action in order to safeguard his seat.
However, the party is yet to deny a report that its National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, and about 30 senators of the party were in a meeting with Daura in the early hours of Tuesday, shortly before the deployment of the operatives of the secret service to the National Assembly.
The operatives stopped lawmakers of both the Senate and the House of Representatives and workers of the National Assembly from entering the complex.
The stand-off lasted until the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, summoned Daura and the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to the Presidential Villa.
While Idris denied the deployment of policemen for the exercise, which photographs and videos proved was a blatant lie, Daura was relieved of his appointment and ordered arrested.
He is still in detention.
