With eight days to the Africa Cup of Nations 2019 qualifying tie against South Africa, the Super Eagles’ camp has been thrown into disarray following refusal to pay the players bonuses for the friendlies in France.
The Eagles drew one-all with Corsica and went on to thrash the Hawks of Togo by three nil a few days later, but they were told that there are no rewards for the games.
Some of the aggrieved players informed The Eagle Online about the development, saying the NFF’s decision got them angry and has also dampened their morale ahead of the qualifier against South Africa.
“It is sad that we came to France to play for free. It’s sad news for our football and it draw us back. We all left our various clubs early to make our country proud but see what they have done to us,” one of the players fumed.
Some of the Europe-based players have also expressed concerns that they stand the risk of not being refunded for their flight tickets to France.
One of them said: “We pray the NFF will pay for our air tickets to France because we are not sure of anything now after they said the friendlies were the coach’s (Rohr) arrangement.”
Efforts to speak with the Super Eagles’ Media Officer, Toyin Ibitoye, on the players complaints proved abortive as his phone was off.
Meanwhile, the team is expected to arrive Abuja on Friday (today) before they will depart to Uyo, Akwa Ibom State for the game against South Africa on June 10.
