Armed robbers in the wee hours of Monday and late on Sunday killed five policemen at two different locations in Ogun State.
While three of the policemen were killed in Abeokuta, the state capital, early on Monday, two others were killed in Ibafo, a town located on the ever busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, on Sunday evening.
It was learnt that the three policemen killed in Abeokuta ran into the armed robbers, numbering about 15 as they were raiding The Apostolic Church in Ijemo-Agbadu area of the state capital.
The incident happened at about 3am, it was learnt.
The policemen, who belong to the Quick Response Squad, were said to have responded to the distress call by residents of the area.
They were shot dead by the armed robbers while two of them sustained serious injuries.
At Ibafo, the same gang was said to have killed two policemen, a 12-year-old and another person whose identity could not be established as at press time.
The robbers were said to have operated around World Oil, a filling station, where they robbed their victims of cash and other valuables.
The spokesman of the Ogun State Police Command, Prince Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the incidents.
Adejobi said the same gang carried out the operations in Abeokuta and Ibafo, adding that a suspect had already been arrested.
He said: “The gang had before the Ibafo and Abeokuta incidents snatched a Sport Utility Vehicle and with that they attacked an hotel located at Abiola Way, Abeokuta before heading to The Apostolic Church vicarage at Ijemo-Agbadu area of the town where they killed the three policemen and injured two others.”
