NPFL: Kwara United beat Nasarawa United to return to summit

Otobong Effiong, the captain of Akwa United Football Club of Uyo, says their supporters should be ready for a new dawn in the club’s life following Saturday’s victory over Kano Pillars.

“The atmosphere in our camp has been charged up, following that morale-boosting victory over Kano Pillars on Match Day 7 in Uyo last Saturday,” he said in a statement on Monday by the club’s Media Manager, Mfon Patrick.

Effiong, who led Akwa United to two Federation Cup titles in 2015 and 2017, said the players were in the right frame of mind going into Wednesday’s clash with Adamawa United.

The Akwa United captain said recording their second victory of the season has really lifted their spirit and would motivate them to go for more wins.

He said beating Kano Pillars FC, one of the biggest clubs in Nigeria, was a motivation for them to go forward.

He said: “We have however put that victory behind us and we are focusing on the next game against Adamawa United on Wednesday.

“We are determined to approach the game with the same mind-set because we are going there on a mission.

“Because our position on the table is not encouraging, we have to fight for every available point to further advance our cause.

“The league is very tough and competitive, no doubt, and so we must keep working hard, and that is the reason we have to fight for the maximum points from all our matches to ensure we achieve our aim.”

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Akwa United are currently 13th on the log with two wins, three draws and two losses, while bottom-placed Adamawa United have two points.
