The Lagos State Police Command, Monday, welcomed its new commissioner of police, Mr. Cornelius Kayode Aderanti.
Aderanti took over the command’s mantle of leadership, almost 10 days after the exit of the former Commissioner of Police, Mr. Umar Manko, who was promoted to the rank of an Assistant Inspector General of Police. Immediately after his promotion, Manko was posted to Zone II, Onikan, Lagos State.
Aderanti, until his transfer to Lagos State Police Command, was the Commissioner in charge of Western Ports Authority, Lagos.
Aderanti who has once worked as the Director, Directorate of Peacekeeping Operations, enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force in 1984.
The police boss, who described himself as
a diplomat and an international civil servant, in an online interview said that he had the privilege of dealing with over 100 countries at the same time and “I was interfacing on behalf of these countries. I was a diplomat, I had red passport, but when I left that in 2006, I now moved to the UN as an international civil servant with blue passport to work with the Secretary General of the UN for three years in Operation, African division. Hardly can you see someone with such multilateral exposure. When you are there in the permanent mission, your major customer is the UN headquarters working with them from outside in the interest of your country. Now, it is another setting working inside the secretariat, representing the UN with other with other countries. So, I worked inside the UN and outside the UN; both sides; multilateral and institutional.”
The policeman is married with children. He likes listening to music, watching television.
“When I have the opportunity, I do sports to keep myself fit. When I wake up in the morning, I shape up a little. I don’t eat too much. It has been an experience of a lifetime and I encourage young to join the police. I was a very tiny officer when I was enlisted into the police then when I just left the university. That has been my major career, I have never worked anywhere in my life. After I left secondary school, I went on to do my HSC. After my HSC, I went to the University. After my NYSC, I joined the police. I think I am blessed.”
