Six years after he voluntarily stepped down at Lobi Stars of Makurdi, Dominic Iorfa has been reappointed Vice Chairman of the team after the management board headed by Emmanuel Tama was sacked on Monday.
The former Super Eagles and Queens Park Rangers of England striker stepped down from his position in 2016.
This was after nearly 14 years, going down in history as one of the longest-serving club chairmen in Nigeria.
Chairman of Lobi Stars and Benue State Deputy Governor, Engr. Benson Abounu, who announced the dissolution of the Board on Monday in Makurdi, said it became necessary in order to save the club from relegation.
Abounu expressed worry that only three years back, Lobi Stars was the toast of Nigerian football.
However, it started dangerously going down less than a year after Tama Emmanuel took charge as the Chief Executive Officer.
The Deputy Governor, who equally expressed worry over the dwindling fortunes of the club, said after due consultation with stakeholders, including Governor Samuel Ortom, who is the proprietor of the club, a decision was taken that in order to save Lobi Stars from the embarrassment of relegation that Emmanuel and his entire management team be shown the way out.
He also revealed that having listened to views and complaints of soccer fans within Benue State and across the country, following the bad performance of the club recently, and after due consultation with the proprietor of the club, Iorfa has been asked to come back and salvage the club from relegation.
He said Iorfa’s consideration is based on his pedigree and vast experience in football management and administration, expressing optimism that the new Vice Chairman’s understanding of the Nigeria Football Federation NFF and his vast knowledge of the game will help save the club from its critical period of history.
