“But for God, we wouldn’t have been able to do anything. We cannot thank God enough. We had prayed Him last year to make this year a year of delivery and everywhere you go in Ekiti, there is tangible evidence of delivery. This is a progress made possible by God….”
Those were the words of the Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, at the 2012 Service of Carols and Lessons held at the Government House Grounds, Ado Ekiti on Wednesday.
The governor, who had earlier led top government functionaries in a carol song with his high baritone voice, said if the huge statutory financial obligations that stared the state government in the face was anything to go by, there would not be resources to carry out projects that would benefit the masses whose expectations from government were high.
Fayemi stated that there was hardly any part of the state which has not benefitted from the programmes of his administration, even as the projects executed in the year were in consonance with the requests made by communities during the town hall meetings held last year.
He added that a review of the achievements vis-a-vis the meagre resources that accrued to the state on monthly basis shows that the successes are only the handiwork of God.
The governor, however, said that there is more to be done for the citizenry who still crave more dividends of democracy.
He added that the administration still hopes in God to provide resources for projects that have been set out for execution.
While appealing to people who were affected by some of government’s policies in 2012 to bear with the administration, Fayemi said all actions of government were done with good intention and in the interest of the people.
It would be recalled that the Fayemi-led administration had in the last two months commissioned road projects totaling 103 km, five water treatment plants, rural electrification projects for no fewer than four communities, which are now for the first time connected to the national grid, as well as resuscitated moribund money spinning world wonder, Ikogosi Resort, and Ire Burnt Brick, which has been moribund for two decades.
Earlier in his sermon, the Bishop of Ekiti Anglican Diocese, Rt. Reverend Christopher Omotunde, urged Christians to imitate the humility of Christ, which began with His birth and advised them to live with the reality of Christ’s and make a place for Christ-like living.
The service of songs was attended by other top government functionaries and traditional rulers, including the wife of the Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi; the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Dr. Adewale Omirin; the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Ayodeji Daramola; the Chief of Staff, Yemi Adaramodu; and the Head of Service, Bunmi Famosaya.
