Enyimba International of Aba has retained their Federation Cup title, following their 2-1 victory over Dolphins FC of Port Harcourt.
Enyimba’s goal machine, Mfon Udoh, netted the first goal of the encounter early in the second half.
Dolphins goalkeeper, Rotimi Sunday, was badly at fault as the winning team benefited from his mistake and that led to the second goal for Enyimba at the Teslim Balogun Stadium.
The introduction of substitutes Rasheed Olabiyi and Nzube Anazaemba also propelled Enyimba to a second Cup title in two consecutive season.
For Dolphins, their season will now be regarded as a relative disappointment after failing to add a trophy to their rich cabinet.
The winning team were on the back foot early on when strings of efforts from Emem Eduok put Femi Thomas in goal for Enyimba under pressure.
Enyimba were coping comfortably as Dolphins left Eduok too isolated at times.
Emeka Atuloma was also being forced to drop too deep to offer support to the beleaguered Victor Alegbe and Ebube Okpokwu rather than add attacking potency to the game.
The quiet Mfon stormed off the blocks in the 55th minute when he profited from a brilliant pass from Markson Ojobo to shoot the ball into the right hand side of Rotimi’s post.
Some minutes later, a rare howler from Rotimi gifted Mfon a sight at goal, but he elected to pass to Chinonso Okonkwo.
The striker turned superbly before firing high past the goalkeeper.
At last Enyimba had impetus and were getting the dangerous Mfon into threatening positions, allowing him to force Rotimi to save low to his right with an effort from the edge of the area.
Eduok reduced the tally from an excellent pass by Victor Alegbe.
