A former Head of State, Major General Muhammadu Buhari, and the All Progressives Congress governors from the South West were conspicuously absent at the Council of State meeting on Tuesday.
The meeting was convened by President Goodluck Jonathan to brief members made up of former Heads of State and the 36 state governors on the security situation in the country.
From the APC, only Governors Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State and his embattled counterpart from Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako, attended the meeting.
The Council of State is the highest advisory body to the Federal Government.
Other members of the Council are: the Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives and the Chief Justice of Nigeria.
Buhari was the only former Head of State who did not attend the meeting.
Present were former President Olusegun Obasanjo; former President Shehu Shagari; former Head of the Interim National Government, Chief Ernest Shonekan; and former military Heads of State, Yakubu Gowon, Abdusalam Abubakar and Ibrahim Babangida.
Also, Governors Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State, Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, Isiaka Ajimobi of Oyo State and Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State were absent and did not send representatives.
Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State was represented by his deputy, Segun Adesegun.
