A new pope has been elected to lead faithfuls of the Roman Catholic Church.
This emerged a few minutes ago as white smoke poured out of the Sistine Chapel’s chimney and the bells of St Peter’s Basilica in Rome, Italy rang out to herald the election of the new pope.
The new pope is to succeed Benedict XVI, who resigned last month.
