The Nigerian Police Force has indicted Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State over the killing of 73 persons on New Year day in the state.
A source at the closed door grilling of the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, by the Senate Committee on Police disclosed this on Friday.
According to the source, the police also blamed Ortom for failing to handle the crisis resulting from the killings with the sensitivity it deserved.
The source added that the mass burial was conducted openly to whip up sentiments, a development that was said to have aggravated the situation.
The IGP also blamed the Governor Orton for implementing anti-grazing law in the state without providing alternatives for the herdsmen.
Idris added that statement credited to the Benue State Governor before and after the mass burial aggravated the killings in the state.
He equally solicited for the discontinuation of the anti-grazing law pending the time the Federal Government will make provision for ranches.
