Benfica have identified Fulham manager Marco Silva as their top target to replace Jose Mourinho, in a move that could complicate Chelsea’s search for a new manager.
The Portuguese club are preparing for a possible Mourinho exit amid reports linking him with a return to Real Madrid.
Silva has emerged as Benfica’s preferred candidate, creating a direct clash with Chelsea, who have also shortlisted the Fulham boss following the dismissal of Liam Rosenior.
Chelsea are currently being overseen by interim manager Calum McFarlane as the club continues its search for a permanent appointment ahead of the summer.
Club officials are said to be prioritising an experienced manager capable of stabilising the squad and delivering consistency after a turbulent season.

However, Benfica’s interest in Silva has added uncertainty to Chelsea’s plans, with Fulham also keen to retain their manager and push for a new contract at Craven Cottage.
Silva has earned recognition for his style of play at Fulham, but questions remain over his experience at top-level clubs.
His previous spells at Everton, Watford and Hull City were marked by inconsistency, and he has yet to lead a team in a major European title challenge.
Despite reports linking Mourinho with a return to Chelsea, the possibility of a third stint at Stamford Bridge is not currently under consideration.
The situation leaves Silva at the centre of competing interests as both Benfica and Chelsea assess their next managerial moves.
