One of the aspirants in the August 26 All Progressives Congress governorship primary in Anambra State, Barrister Nonso Madu, has again blasted Chief Andy Uba over his negative comments about the primary election, adding that Uba has been peddling lies and falsehood in a bid to scuttle the chances of the party in the forthcoming poll.
He noted that the Governor Shettima led panel conducted the primary without bias, stressing that Andy Uba was also among those that initially described the primary as free, fair and credible.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Madu said: “Uche left his workshop in Obosi on Friday 25th august 2017 to take part in electing the governorship candidate of his party the All Progressives Congress. He returned on sunday 27th August fulfilled, having made history by participating in the most transparent election primary ever conducted in the history of Nigeria”
He added: “Chinwe closed her provision shop in onitsha for over 72 hours. Bernard Udero left his family in Mkpologwu for 2 days. Emeka Ndigwe from Awka stood on the queue for 14 hours to cast his vote. Tony Oneweek Muonagor stood for over 24 hours to make sure delegates from his Local government were not just accredited but ensured that they all voted. I saw an elderly woman from Anaocha Local Government Area whom i presume to be over 70 years being helped up the stairs to cast her vote. I saw people on clutches, i met a crippled, practically walking on all fours to cast his vote.
“I saw His Excellency, Governor Kashim Shettima holding babies on two different occasions so the mothers could cast their vote.
“I saw people sleeping on the floor and others on plastic chairs. They were all there for one thing, to cast their vote for candidates of their choice whom they believed as the most qualified to be the next Governor of Anambra state. Despite the late commencement of accreditation due to rigorous security checks, and slight rainfall, resilient party men and women stood firm in their resolve to vote.”
It is therefore disheartening, disrespectful and outrightly inhumane for a candidate that participated in the same election and hailed the process as being transparent to turn around to refer to these individuals as thugs and members of NANS.
“It is equally sad that someone who wants to fly our party’s flag will describe Okoye from Abatete, Isaac Nnebedum from Ekwusigo, Yokov Chike Okafor, Dr Anyabolu from Idemmili and thousands of other delegates as thugs and miscreants simply because he lost a primary election. These are people from different fields of human endeavor. They are retired civil servants, lawyers, doctors, traders, carpenters, mechanics and drivers.
“The real heroes of the Anambra state APC primaries are these men and women, young and old, able and physically challenged who defied all odds and stood up to be counted.
THEY ARE DELEGATES NOT THUGS. The August 26th 2017 primary election victory belongs to them.
“While we await the official submission of Dr Tony Nwoye’s name as the APC flagbearer for the November 18 2017 Governorship elections, we assure the national leadership of our party that these great men and women will repeat the same feat on election day. They won’t be doing so all alone; they will be coming out with their sons and daughters, cousins, uncles, aunts, friends, colleagues and other party faithfuls to ensure victory for our party.
“To Anambra APC, i urge you all to brace up for intensive campaigns as the task ahead is much bigger than the one we already conquered”
