Queens Park Rangers of England player, Nedum Onuoha, has revealed the rationale for ditching the Super Eagles when he was invited to dorn the colours of the African Champions under Swedish gaffer, Lars Lagerback.
“I said to the manager of Nigeria (Lagerback) it wasn’t the right time for me but there’s been all sorts of outrage in Nigeria,” Onuoha said.
The Nigerian Football Federation made it known that Onuoha rejected a request to join the Super Eagles squad for the 2010 World Cup.
Onuoha was a regular in the England U-21 side, making his debut in October, 2005.
He was part of the squad participating in the 2007 European Under-21 Championship in the Netherlands.
During the Championship, Onuoha was subjected to racist abuse from Serbian fans, but received praise for maintaining his conduct amid provocation.
The Eagle Online recalls that Onuoha received an international call up from Nigeria in 2007, but has announced he would like to represent England at full international level.
However, he has since said he would play at the FIFA World Cup for Nigeria if he were to be called up
