The lawmakers numbering thirty, who took turns to speak during a special session to mark the second year anniversary of the ninth Senate, lauded the numerous legislative interventions of the National Assembly, particularly in the areas of security, economy and governance.

Lawan made this known during plenary on Wednesday following a motion moved by the Senate Leader, Yahaya Abdullahi (APC-Kebbi North), and seconded by the Minority Leader, Enyinnaya Abaribe (PDP-Abia South).

The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan; Senator Olubunmi Adetumbi; Senate Leader, Yahaya Abdullahi; Senator Tolu Odebiyi; Senator Ifeanyi Uba; Senator Francis Fadahunsi; and Senator Aliyu Sabi.

The Senate Ad-Hoc Committee on Security Challenges has called for the decentralisation of the Nigeria Police Force as a way of improving efficiency aimed at addressing the problem of insecurity bedeviling the country.

The Senate on Wednesday held a valedictory session to honour late Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu, who until his death represented Imo North Senatorial District in the National Assembly on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.

This followed a motion by the Senate Leader, Yahaya Abdullahi, during plenary and subsequent Senate resolution suspend Rule 13 of the Senate in order to conclude and finish businesses before the legislators embark on Christmas and New Year break.
