Per Radio France International, a French court accepted a request from Diack’s legal team to lift a ban on the 87-year-old leaving the country in December.
The guilty verdict in a Paris court represented a spectacular fall from grace for the 87-year-old Diack, who was the powerful head of the IAAF from 1999-2015 and mixed with world leaders and was influential in the world of Olympic sports.
Prosecutors said that Diack, an 87-year-old Senegalese who led track and field’s governing body for nearly 16 years, directly or indirectly solicited 3.45 million euros ($3.9 million) from athletes suspected by the IAAF of doping.
The 87-year-old said he had not sought to protect the athletes caught up in the scandal, some of whom later competed in the London 2012 Olympics, but to ensure the cases did not come to public attention all at once.
The much-awaited trial of Diack — who has been accused of corruption, influence-trafficking and money laundering — was originally due to start in January, but had been moved to June 3 before being moved back by five days, to June 8.
