Vanessa Phala, the ILO Country Director for Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Liaison Office for ECOWAS shared this concern during the inaugural National Children’s Conference on the Elimination of Child Labour (NCCECL) themed “Act Now: End Child Labour” at the Reiz Continental Hotel, in Abuja on Wednesday, June 16 2021.

The training, facilitated by the ILO in partnership with the Ministry Labour and Employment, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, is being conducted in-person, with COVID-19 regulations in place.

“Let’s be clear: it’s not a choice between health or jobs and the economy.  We will either win on all fronts or fail on all fronts,” United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres told an ILO summit that will be addressed by dozens of heads of state and government via recorded messages.

The Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association has advised governments to urgently accord businesses more structured and specific support to enable them to stay afloat and reduce the impact of Coronavirus on them.
