Olabimtan, one of the 24 aspirants who battled for the governorship ticket at the keenly contested All Progressives Congress primary election held on September 3, 2016 in Akure, the Ondo State capital, was a former Commissioner in the Federal Civil Service Commission

Akeredolu who, in a press statement explained that when primaries are held, aspirants are more likely to accept the collective decision of the party as prescribed the outcome, thereby reducing the tendency for rancorous behaviours and attitudes by party members

Akeredolu, in a statement, however, said that he aligns with the position of his party to study the results of the election before taking a position

So far, Mimiko has received 218,874 votes while the Action Congress of Nigeria’s Barrister Rotimi Akeredolu is in a distant second position with 119,983 votes and Barrister Olusola Oke of the Peoples Democratic Party garnering 117,113 votes

This follows Mimiko’s early lead in Saturday’s election, defeating one of his opponents even in his (opponent’s) own polling unit
