KWASU matriculates 1,559 students for 2015/2016 Academic Session

A total of 1,559 students on Tuesday took the oath at the seventh matriculation of the Kwara State University, Malete, Kwara State.

The students were the successful candidates out of over 4,900 who sought admission to the institution.

Addressing the matriculating students, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. AbdulRasheed Na’Allah, remarked that their admission into the University was based on merit, considering the strict and rigorous processes the institution adopted in choosing the best from the lot.

Na’Allah stated that at KWASU, students are trained to learn, relearn and unlearn, with a view to employing the knowledge acquired to impact positively on the immediate community and the larger society.

He added that all students are trained to be entrepreneurs and employers of labour.

He said: “You have come at a time when the University has just recorded an unprecedented boost in teaching, research and community development.

“We have obtained accreditation for all courses that were presented for accreditation.”

The University’s helmsman, therefore, warned the matriculating students against all vices, including cultism, improper dressing, examination malpractices, violent demonstrations, robbery and theft, among others.

Na’Allah noted that the University has been able to maintain stable academic calendar as a result of its zero tolerance for indiscipline, pointing out that the students should familiarise themselves with the Code of Conduct and other extant rules of the University to build themselves up as true KWASU ambassadors.

He also urged the new students to avail themselves of various scholarship opportunities provided by the institution to help them explore and expose their intrinsic and extrinsic potentials for international attention.

He said: “Your sense of achievement and strive for excellence are sharpened to pursue chosen professions.

“Consequently, you are presented with options to go professional from the very beginning of your studies with the creation of the Institute of Professional Studies.”

Na’Allah said KWASU students are sharpened in the art of academic research, community development and rigorously drilled to fit into the real world, stressing that the University is committed to giving quality education to its students at all levels.
