The Kogi State Government has confirmed six deaths in a road crash involving a bus returning from a disability commemoration event.
Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, said the accident on the Lokoja-Okene Road caused “profound sorrow” across the state.
He said the bus conveyed citizens returning from the 2025 International Day of Persons with Disabilities event in Lokoja.
Fanwo said: “The incident claimed six precious lives, while thirteen others sustained varying injuries and are receiving treatment.
“We mourn deeply with the families of the deceased and offer heartfelt condolences during this devastating moment.”

He stressed that the loss of any citizen was a loss to the entire state, describing the day as “dark” for Kogi State.
He said Governor Ahmed Ododo had ordered the state to cover the full medical costs of all injured persons.
He noted that officials had been deployed to hospitals to support victims and ensure they received proper care.
“Our hearts are with the families who lost loved ones in this tragedy of devastating magnitude,” Fanwo said.
He urged prayers for the dead and for the swift recovery of the injured, asking God to strengthen the bereaved families.
