El-Kanemi Warriors FC of Maiduguri on Thursday beat visiting Kano Pillars FC of Kano 2-0 in a Premier League encounter played in Maiduguri.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the home team dominated most parts of the encounter watched by a capacity crowd at the El-Kanemi Sports Centre, Maiduguri.
Ibrahim Mustapha converted a penalty at the 29th minute to put the Warriors ahead, while Hassan Mustapha scored the second goal at the 50th minute.
El-Kanemi’s Coach Ladan Bosso expressed happiness over the result while speaking with journalists.
Bosso said: “It was an easy match for us.
“We thought it was going to be much harder.”
Bosso also commended his boys for playing to instruction.
He said the victory was a sign of good omen for the team.
Coach Baba Ganaru of Kano Pillars blamed his team’s loss on ill-luck.
Ganaru said: “We played well.
“The match was okay.
“It is just that we were not lucky enough to convert our chances.”
Ganaru said his team was going back to the drawing board to plan for the upcoming matches in the league.
