The new Assistant Inspector -General of Police for Zone 5, Rasheed Akintunde, has assumed office in Benin, headquarters of the zone which comprises Edo, Delta and Beyalsa States Police Commands.
Akintunde took over from AIG Abubakar Mohammed, who had been redeployed to the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, near Jos, as a Directing Staff.
Emeka Iheanacho, the Police Zonal Public Relations Officer, said in a statement in Benin on Thursday that the Inspector- General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, authorised the new postings.
Iheanacho said Akintunde, until his new appointment, was the Commissioner of Police in charge of Intelligence at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The zone’s spokesperson stated that the new AIG was also in charge of INTERPOL FCIID Abuja, Investment and Jigawa Command, before his recent elevation.
He also said Akintunde graduated from Obafemi Awolowo University, lle-Ife, where he read Estate Management.
He enjoined the people to support the new AIG in securing lives and property as well as reducing crimes in the zone.
