The Commissioner for Health in Zamfara, Alhaji Lawal Liman, on Monday said that the state government had concluded plans to recruit a total of 100 doctors, 200 nurses and midwives.
Liman stated this at a news conference in Gusau confirming that the state government recently approved the recruitment and hundreds of applicants were interviewed.
He explained that out of the hundreds interviewed by the state’s Hospital Service Management Board, 100 doctors and 200 nurses and midwives would be recruited.
According to him, a large number of the doctors will be deployed to rural areas to address shortage of health workers in those areas.
He lamented the concentration of doctors and other health personnel in urban areas of the state, saying the ministry would soon take measures to address the situation to improve access to health care service to the people.
Liman said the state government, apart from renovating health care facilities, also put more emphasis on human resources for health.
The commissioner, therefore, urged health workers in the state to be dedicated to their responsibilities.
