Following reports that some governors are ready to dump the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, Governor Gabriel Suswam of Benue State has said it would not be a big deal should they carry out their threat.
According to Suswam, it is their prerogative to decide on their political future even as he cautioned those embarking on the tour of the country to do so in the interest of the nation.
Governor Suswam, in a chat with State House correspondents after a meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan, also contended that as leaders their action should take cognizance of the nation’s interest.
He however promised to stay with the party and to continue to work for its growth and the interest of the country.
He said: “They are free as leaders in their own right to consult.
“I am not part of why they are consulting or what they are consulting for but they are going round.
“I also read in the newspapers and see them in the pages of newspapers.
“They have the right to consult.
“So, I just feel that whatever they are saying round is for the interest of the country.
“Because whatever that we do as present leaders must and have to be in the interest of the country.
“So, I just hope and believe that what they are doing is in the interest of the country.
“As far as I am concerned, I am 100 per cent PDP.
“I will never leave the party and I believe that I will stay within the party to continue to work for the party to achieve success.”
Meanwhile, President Goodluck Jonathan also met with the factional Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum, Chief Jonah Jang of Plateau State and Obong Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State respectively.
Details of the meeting, which held behind closed door, could not be ascertained as at the time of filling this report.
It may, however, not be connected with the crisis rocking the ruling party and the threat by some northern governors to pull out.
