Super Eagles Captain, Joseph Yobo, has said that he will like to play at the 2014 FIFA World Cup finals in Brazil.
Yobo, Nigeria’s most capped footballer, has not played for the Super Eagles since the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.
He was drafted in as an 89th minute substitute by Coach Stephen Keshi in the final against Burkina Faso but has not played for the Super Eagles ever since.
Yobo has now revealed that the burnt bridges with Keshi have now been repaired as he looks ahead to his final chapter with the national team.
He said: “It’s been a while since I was involved with Nigeria. I haven’t played for the Super Eagles since we became the champions of Africa.
“I have spoken to (Keshi) and I think we are on equal basis now so I just have to perform well for Norwich City now and get my place back in the national team.”
Yobo spoke during his first press conference as a Norwich City player at the weekend.
He joined the club on loan from Fenerbahce till the end of the season on January 29.
He added: “I have been in the national team for so long. Captaining the national team gives me a special feeling and going to the World Cup for me will be an addition.
“I am here (in England) now and my priority now is Norwich City. Hopefully if I do well here, the national team (call up) will just be an addition. It will be a pleasure.”
Some have questioned Yobo’s choice of Norwich City as he looks to force his way back to reckoning in the Nigerian set up.
The Canaries are currently just two points away from the relegation zone but Yobo believes the precarious position of Norwich on the table will guarantee that he does not get lulled into a false sense of security.
He said: “You always look at the situation but as soon as the gaffer (Chris Houghton) spoke to me, it was pretty easy for me. “I like challenges and it gives me motivation. I want to go to the World Cup and I want to still perform at the highest level.
“So pushing myself and understanding the situation that Norwich City find themselves in represent extra motivation for me. I am excited about it.”
Yobo made his debut for Norwich City in a goalless draw against Manchester City last Saturday.
