The Yobe State Government has imposed curfew on a major city in the state, Potiskum.
This followed days of attacks on the city by members of Boko Haram, which has left no fewer than 30 persons dead.
The Yobe State Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Geidam, approved the curfew.
The curfew will run from 4pm to 7am.
A statement by Geidam’s Special Adviser, Press Affairs and Information, Alhaji Abdullahi Bego, said: “The imposition of restriction of movement in Potiskum town begins from today Monday 22nd October 2012 from 4pm to 7am daily.
“His Excellency the Governor urges all Potiskum residents to cooperate with security agents as they continue in their effort to ensure peace and security in Potiskum and around the state.
“The Governor also extends his heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the families of those who were killed by criminal gangs and those whose properties were burnt in Potiskum over the last few days. His Excellency assures Potiskum residents and all the people of the State that his administration will do everything within its power to assist and partner with the security agencies to maintain law and order and protect the life and property of the people.”
