After years of battling and defeating armed robbers, especially in Lagos State, the former Officer-in-Charge of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Ikeja, Lagos State Police Command, Abba Kyari, has finally been promoted.
The promotion came just as Kyari, dubbed as robbers’ terror, with stoic acceptance of his new position, dusted his armour and shield in preparation to battle another set of criminals in the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The Police Service Commission approved the promotion of 346 Superintendent of Police to the rank of Chief Superintendent of Police.
Kyari was among the lucky 346 lucky officers that were promoted.
The promotion came after seven years of being on the same rank.
Since the announcement of his name and promotion, his Facebook was been inundated with greetings from well-wishers, colleagues and friends.
The officers were decorated on Monday at various command headquarters within the country.
The Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, urged them to be ambassadors of the force.
Kyari was instrumental in the arrest of various armed robbers, kidnappers, sea pirates and terrorists within the country, including the arrest of a notorious armed robber, Abiodun Ogunjobi, popularly known as Godogodo.
Godogodo killed over 50 policemen and civilians during his reign of terror.
Kyari busted gang of kidnappers that abducted the council chairman of Ejigbo and a serving Judge at the Lagos High Court.
He once led his men to apprehend the gang that abducted the mother of the former coordinating Minister of the Economy, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.
According to the Force Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Ojukwu, Arase implored the officers to be professionals in discharging their duties, stressing that the promotion was based on merit.
He said: “The officers promoted were qualified and their promotion was well deserved!”
