Senators and members of House of Representatives are at loggerhead over the planned visit to the South African parliament to protest against the xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in the country.
Before the Senate resolved to visit South Africa last week, the House of Representatives had already nominated the House Leader, Femi Gbajabiamila to lead five members of the lower legislative chamber to South Africa for the same purpose.
Owing to this development, the Senate has cancelled its planned visit to South Africa.
Although the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, hinged decision on the need for the legislature to send a single delegation to South Africa, our correspondent gathered that the cancellation of the trip by the Senate was as a result of the refusal of Honourable members to back down on their decision to travel to South Africa.
A source revealed that members of House of Representatives were angry over the resolution of the Senate to travel to South Africa since the Green Chamber had passed the same resolution before Senate.
The source added that the Green Chamber was of view that the Senate would have adopted another resolution instead of the South African trip.
Honorable members expected to meet the South African parliament are Nnenna Okeje, Sadiq Ibrahim, Henry Nwawuba, Nasiru Daura and Shehu Musa.
It could be recalled that Senate last week resolved to send a strong delegation to South Africa to protest against the attacks on Nigerians in the country.
