An international based non-governmental organisation, Marie Stopes, have called for family planning for every women, lamenting that there are still 214 million women “with an unmet need for contraception.
In a statement issued to the press on Thursday, the organisation reiterated that every woman has the right to choose her “own future through family planning” and if many women should have access to contraceptives, it will help many girls to complete their education and join the workforce to become productive members of the society.
It stated: “In recent years, the number of women who want contraception but cant access it has fallen from 225 million to 214 million. However, not only is the progress slow, it is at risk of going into reverse. Marie Stopes international estimates that as many as 1.4 million women may lose access to its family planning services.
It disclosed that at Marie Stopes clinics, no woman is denied access to any modern family method of her choice and it stated that the society will be the better for it if women and girls can get access to contraceptives.
It added: “We will see fewer girls drop out of school, a decrease in the number of women dying at childbirth, contraception then, has the power “not just to transform lives but the entire Nigerian communities”.
It regretted that many young ladies who unlike married ladies cant get access to contraception and this have led to poor information about sex and how to prevent pregnancy and this in turn put the young lady’s aspiration and lives at risk too.
