Golf icon Tiger Woods has sought professional help to manage his medication intake after he was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence last month.
The former world No1, who will face charges of driving under the influence on August 9, has been taking medication for sleep loss and back pain.
He said he had suffered “an unexpected” reaction to his prescriptions when he was found asleep at the wheel of his Mercedes by Florida police.
The 14-time Major winner, who has not played professionally since February, underwent his fourth back operation in three years in April.
“I’m currently receiving professional help to manage my medications and the ways that I deal with back pain and a sleep disorder,” Woods said in a statement.
“I want to thank everyone for the amazing outpouring of support and understanding especially the fans and players on tour.”
A breath test conducted by police found no evidence of alcohol in Woods’ system at the time of his arrest.
The 41-year-old has not won a tournament since the 2013 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational and last won a Major in 2008 at the US Open.
