The President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, has described women as better financial managers.
Jonathan said this was why the second phase of the YouWin programme was targeted at women.
Speaking on Monday at the inauguration of the programme, Jonathan said with their capacity as better financial managers, women had the ability to create multiplier effect of funds received to impact on the nation’s economy.
Apart from this, he said the decision to empower women was in line with the global thinking that issues of women and children should occupy the front burner in accordance with United Nations charter.
Jonathan called on international development partners and the private sector to support the Federal Government’s efforts at creating jobs for the youths.
He said the second phase of the YouWin was undertaken as a result of the successes recorded in the first phase.
The President said about 933 of the 1,200 beneficiaries of the first batch of the YouWin programme have received the first tranche of about N1.03 billion from the funds.
He said those who were yet to be paid would get theirs by the end of next week.
