A 38-year-old woman, Grace Olabokunde, Tuesday appeared before an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State, for alleged N1.5 million fraud.
Olabokunde, whose address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of obtaining under false pretences and stealing.
She, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, Insp Adegeshin Famuyiwa, told the court that the defendant committed the offences in September 2021 at No. 14, Onafowokan Close at Agric area of Ikorodu.
Famuyiwa, said that the defendant collected the sum from the complainant, Pastor Kunle Adeyemo, to help him to acquire a parcel of land, but failed to do so.
He said that the defendant converted the money to her personal use, in contravention of Sections 314(b)(3) and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Section 314 stipulates 15 years jail term for obtaining under false pretences, while Section 287 provides for three years imprisonment for stealing.
The Magistrate, A.O. Ogbe, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100, 000 with one surety in like sum.
Ogbe adjourned the case until September 8 for mention.
