No fewer than 200 residential houses were on Wednesday night destroyed by windstorm in Zaria, Kaduna State.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that areas affected included Buzai, Kofar Gayan, Anguwan Rimi Low-Cost, Gwargwaje, Kugu in Dutsen Abba District, Tudun Jukun, Kaura and Rimin Bindiga.
A victim, Malam Sulaiman Aliyu, in an interview with NAN on Thursday described the incident as “the Will of God”.
Aliyu added: “We are happy that we survived to this period and may Allah (SWT) bless our lives and give us the ability to repair the destroyed houses.”
Also speaking, the Interim Management Committee Chairman of Zaria Local Government, Alhaji Abubakar Buba-Maude, said the inventory of the destroyed houses has been taken.
“We have taken stock of the destruction and we will send it to the State Emergency Management Agencyfor necessary action,” Buba-Maude said.
NAN reports that the windstorm also destroyed scores of houses in Makarfi Local Government.
The Interim Management Committee Chairman of the council, Malam Shehu Muhammad, said the management was yet to ascertain the level of destruction.
Muhammad, however, said the council would to take the inventory and forward it to the appropriate authorities for further action.
