Why we won’t form new party – PDP governors

Governor Godswill Akpabio

Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party on Tuesday said they are not out to form a new party.
The governors, who were on Monday reported to have converged on Lagos State for that purpose, refuted the position at a news conference.
Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Barrister Godswill Akpabio, said their meeting in Lagos was to emphasise the fact that the future of Nigeria lies with President Goodluck Jonathan.
Akpabio said at a time of political tension as this in the country, it had become imperative for them to speak up and set the records straight.
Akpabio, who reeled out the achievements of Jonathan, equally said the PDP was set for the general election.
He said though the major reason for the shift of the elections was because of the insurgency in the North East, it had also exposed the fact that if the polls had gone ahead as scheduled, there would have been chaos in the country.
He said it became obvious after the shift that the Independent National Electoral Commission was not set.
He said the fact that INEC was just testing the card reader to be used for the elections three weeks after the shift was an indication that the outcome of the polls would have been unacceptable, especially with the challenges noticed with the card readers.
