Nigerian actress, Ini Edo, has offered reasons why the makers of: “Shanty Town,” a six-part series now showing on Netflix, could not avoid nudity.

The popular Nollywood actress offered the explanation in an interview she granted the Pidgin Service of the BBC.

Edo, who played the role of Inem in Shanty Town, said telling the story of the shanty without the accompanying nudity would not be a vivid way of relating with what goes on there.

The 40-year-old told BBC Pidgin: “We hear the talk about nudity and everything.

“But people don’t realise you cannot say a story about shanty, prostitution rings or crime that you won’t see guns or nudity.

“People should realise it’s part of the story you’re trying to sell, not an attempt to debase anybody.

“Because at the end of the day, we have to start seeing the woman body for what it is: just a body God created without people’s mind travelling to different places.

“We are trying to create real life, near life situations.

“So, it’s inevitable for there to be nudity.”
