The Executive Director of Ondo State Football Agency (OSFA), Mike Idoko, has explained why the management of the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) side, Sunshine Stars of Akure contracted ex-Barcelona midfielder, Gbenga Okunowo.
Speaking with The Eagle Online, Idoko said that unknown to many soccer pundits, Okonowo still has a lot to offer.
“With what we have seen of him, Okunowo will surely contribute positively to our aspiration this season. He is highly experienced, skillful, committed and disciplined. In a couple of weeks, Nigerians will see that we have made a right choice,” Idoko said.
Okunowo, a member of the Flying Eagles to the FIFA Under-20 World Cup hosted by Nigeria in 1999, has gone into oblivion following a career threatening injury which cut short his stay with the Spanish giants.
Many Nigerian football enthusiasts were shocked by the news of the move of Okunowo, who once played for Shooting Stars Sports Club, to Sunshine Stars this season after many years in the doldrums.
