The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs has advanced reasons why the Federal Government must withdraw the private airstrip licence granted to Living Faith Church Worldwide, popularly known as Winners Chapel, founded by Bishop David Oyedepo.
The position of the NSCIA was made known in a communiqué issued at the conclusion of its 10th meeting on December 1, 2024.
The meeting was that of the Expanded General Purpose Committee at the National Mosque in Abuja.

Though the NSCIA did not mention Oyedepo’s name in the communique issued after the meeting chaired by its President-General and Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, it said the issuance of the airstrip licence was an aberration.
The communique of the meeting, attended by an array of Muslim leaders, government officials, and security representatives, and signed by the Deputy Secretary-General of the NSCIA, Prof Salisu Shehu, said: “The Council calls for the immediate revocation of the private airstrip licence approved for a religious leader, describing it as an aberration of the highest order that could threaten the peace and security of the country.”
